John Maxwell Event Raises $1.5 Million For Christian College

God provided more than $1.5 million for a relatively new Christian College in a single day, this past Wednesday, December 4th. The annual event, which used to be called John Maxwell Live, attracts thousands of business leaders from around the state of Alabama. It was rebranded this year as the Impact Leadership Conference Featuring John C. Maxwell.

Maxwell is highly supportive of Highlands College, which seems to have a unique approach toward shaping the Christian leaders of tomorrow to go out into the harvest fields. Church of the Highlands Senior Pastor Chris Hodges, who is also Chancellor of Highlands College, shares the heart behind it all: “The Lord has given me a lot of vision for Highlands College. I have a deep passion to raise up leaders to go into the harvest fields. The harvest is not the problem. The workers are needed.”

Hodges further clarifies that he views Highlands College as a “leadership academy in a university type setting, where we’re really modeling after our military academies.” Hodges used to teach religion at the Air Force Academy back in the 80s and 90s. God used that experience to instill in him the idea of an academy type of setting for ministry training.

In the future, he wants Highlands College to be like a “West Point of ministry training schools” whereby students are all on full scholarships so that they can graduate college debt-free. But Hodges also wants the scholarships to be able to pay students’ basic living expenses so that they can be in full-time ministry training, character formation, and spiritual development from sunrise to sunset, and maybe even a little beyond, because that’s how real-life ministry most often works.

God has blessed the vision so far, as Hodges explains, “Every part of it is supernatural. The people that God has brought us to pull this vision off. The building that God has provided. Every part of it is a miracle.”

Pastor Chris Hodges and Simon Sinek, a well-known leadership speaker and author, were also featured speakers at the event. One-hundred percent of the proceeds go to support Highlands College.

Our upcoming February issue is all about how God is training up leaders to go out and reap the harvest fields. The issue will include interviews with Andrew Wommack, President and Founder of Charis Bible College; Sam Childers, the “Machine Gun Preacher” who traveled into war torn areas of Africa armed with a machine gun to rescue orphans from war lords, and has trained others to do the same; Wes Bentley, a former marine whose Christian ministry training school in Africa has armed guards to protect it from muslim aggression, and many more.
