The man on the street with his sandwich board shouting “The end is near, the end is near” makes those around him uncomfortable and some even shout back, “You’re crazy”, but is he? Is he closer to the truth than those who are too busy to see the latter day events that are happening, or God forbid, to even open a Bible and read Scripture? Israel Defense Minister, Naftali Bennett, is taking the former seriously. The end is closer than we realize as he predicts,” We need to understand the big picture….today we are in (the era of) the Third Temple.”
So what does this all mean? If you are not of the spiritual world, as most people are; here is a simple breakdown. Solomon’s Temple was first. The Lord said to Solomon, “I have consecrated this temple…by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there” (1 King 9:3). God wanted to make sure the Israelites knew He was still in charge. It stood for 410 years until Nebuchadnezzar destroyed it.
Herod’s Temple was second modestly built by the Jews. However, Herod was not happy and wanted an HGTV makeover, so lots of money was wasted to impress the lowly, who incidentally probably never got to even see the inside of it. The Romans made short work of destroying it after standing 420 years. Bennett mourned the fact that the Second Temple was destroyed because everyone “followed their own rules” and the disorderly attitude continues today in Israel.
Jesus prophesied that the Second Temple would be utterly destroyed and the Abomination of Desolation would occur in a future Jewish Temple near the time of His Second Coming, but in order for that to happen, a Third Temple must be erected. Since the two previous temples are gone, a third must be built to fulfill prophecy and that leads us back to the sandwich board guy. Yes, folks the end is near! Call me crazy!
